Can I hang a mezuzah inside my room?

As we hear about mezuzot being ripped from doorways, and as we worry about mounting anti-Semitism, you might wonder whether hanging a mezuzah on your outside doorpost is a great idea.

This isn’t a new question. As this article on the website of Ohr Sameyach, a tradition-oriented Jewish educational network, tells us, this question was dealt with in the Shulchan Aruch, which was written and published in the mid-1500’s.

The short answer is – you shouldn’t put yourself in danger by hanging a mezuzah. There are options, including hanging it on the inside of your doorpost, or near your door inside your home, if that’s not possible.
