What college has the highest percentage of Jewish students?
Our last blog focused on the absolute number of Jewish students at Canadian universities and colleges, but considering the percentage of the student population that is Jewish might give you a better feel for the likelihood of actually finding other Jewish students.
It’s relatively easy to find out which North American universities and colleges have the most Jewish students – In fact, Ivy Coach has the rankings for public and private Universities in 2022 here: https://www.ivycoach.com/the-ivy-coach-blog/college-admissions/colleges-by-jewish-population/ .
But what if we focus only on Canadian universities? We plumbed Hillel’s websites the 25 Canadian universities with the highest percentage of Jewish students. To find more information, use the search function on Hillel’s website (www.hillel.org). Remember that Jews make up 1.4% of the population of Canada, and Toronto is the city with the highest percentage of Jews, at 3.4%.
A bit of caution about the numbers: Given that they are identical to 2022’s numbers, we suspect that the there hasn’t been a 2023 update as yet. Use these as a guide, but by all means, look for more information as the year progresses.
No matter how many (or few) Jews there are on campus, we make it easy for a student to live a Jewish life. We’ve developed a resource guide for living Jewishly anywhere. It’s available on request when you order any of our boxes, or as a free download here.
